Despite costing more than their charcoal counterparts, outdoor gas grills have become the preferred choice of grill buyers because they are less difficult to light, heat up quicker and cook with more precision. If you happen to be one of these people, here are a few tips to help you find and buy the right grill.
- Size matters
The 1st step is to figure out what the precise (or maximum) width and depth available in your area of use. Larger grills can be over 6 feet wide and over 2 feet deep. Remember to keep in mind how much surface space you need for your grilling and whether you need to accommodate for seating.
- Menu please
These days grills come with a load of options. Rotisseries, burners, griddles, racks and LP (liquid propane) tanks are just some of the options you can find with today's grills. No need to pay for unnecessary accessories.
- Safety first
Check the distance from the handle to the grill while gripped. There should be ample space between your knuckles and the grill. Make sure the grill is stable. Grills that tip when gently nudged can be hazards. Also, if you have kids, be on the lookout for sharp edges.
- You get what you pay for
Grills come in 3 price categories - low, medium and high. Cheaper grills tend to use 400 series stainless steal which rusts faster than the higher grade 300 series. An easy way to tell the difference is with a magnet. Magnets will stick to cheaper grades of steel.
